100 POCKETS
300 TREES
Next Pocket Nursery Event
TBD
Lexington's tree canopy is growing, and one way to be sure that growth is healthy, quality, and sustainable is to keep planting the right tree in the right place. Developed by Trees Lexington!, The Pocket Nursery program is remarkably simple for all users. A key purpose of adopting a Pocket Nursery is to educate, inspire, and empower residents to see their power and ability to influence healthy tree canopy growth and improve the quality of our environment in Fayette County. This program is for residents of Lexington/Fayette County, Kentucky.
The Pocket Nursery is a program designed for Fayette County residents by Trees Lexington! arborists and approved by local homeowners. Intentionally simple by design, it puts the power (and fun!) of growing trees into the hands of adopters while also providing them with reliable, high-quality education from local tree care professionals, every step of the way. Adopting a Pocket Nursery promotes community engagement and grows healthy, usable tree stock for private planting in our city. Each Pocket Nursery will have 1 - White Oak, 1 - Bur Oak, and 1 - Shumard Oak.
Even if they don’t yet know it, most people like to get their hands in the dirt! For many, interacting directly with nature is incredibly therapeutic and instills a sense of purpose. Limiting factors such as planting space, finances, and physical ability can keep an individual or family from seeing possibility in planting trees on their property. The Pocket Nursery overcomes these limitations in both form and function. A bonus - bare root trees do BETTER and have healthier root systems which equals stronger, more magnificent trees after years of love and growth. Begin thinking now about which tree you'll plant where. Whether you have room for one, three, or none of these trees, they are counting on you to find them a loving place to call home in the fall. We will provide all of the information you'll need to share with the lucky recipients of your magical little tree that will grow to be a mighty oak!
WE'RE NURTURING THE ROOTS OF STEWARDSHIP FOR THE NEXT GENERATION!
What are kids into these days? Planting trees! And if they aren't already, they will be soon! Adopting a Pocket Nursery is a great way to engage children with simple tasks that make big changes. These seedlings are going to be growing wonderful root systems in their pockets filled with mulch, and growing above the surface as well. When it comes time to plant, children will be able to help with each step and gain a huge sense of pride and satisfaction for the tree they have shared with the world. Adults may also rediscover a childlike wonder at the magic found while tending these baby trees. It's quite a delightful experience!

By establishing healthy urban ecosystems, our community will gain numerous benefits. Just to name a few - carbon storage (for the climate!), stormwater interception, lower crime rates, improved mental and physical health, a greater sense of community, AND, the most popular one of all - SHADE! Thank you for joining Trees Lexington! in the exciting and important work of growing, planting, and caring for trees!
